NEWS FLASH!!! Sierra Vista Food Co-op signs lease for store.

The Sierra Vista Food Co-op’s Board of Directors is delighted to announce that a lease with contingencies was signed on Monday, May 10, for a site in the West End. This is the biggest and most exciting step we have taken so far in our journey to open the doors of a community-owned, natural foods grocery store. The 5,900 sq. ft building is located at 96 S. Carmichael Ave., next to the Peacock Restaurant and, more significantly, the site of the weekly Farmers’ Market.

Our Fundraising "Locavore" Dinner at Sophia’s Italian Ristorante a Great Success!

Thanks to the support we received, the Co-op raised a healthy $3,741 after expenses. There are a number of individuals and businesses that helped make this evening such a success. Chef Zeke Wray prepared a truly memorable meal and the Sophia’s staff provided excellent service. John O’Neill, of Pueblo Del Sol Country Club, once again came to our rescue in the soup bowl department, and guitarist Tim Wray gave an exceptional performance, especially during the after dinner concert a few of us were treated to.

We would especially like to thank our generous sponsors Ron and Janet Wray, the Honorable Judge Don Thomson and his wife Cathi Adamson, Cochise Surgical Care, High Dessert Massage, Tricia Gerrodette, Donna Boe and Steve Fletcher, and Jim and Judi Marshall. A number of prizes for our raffle were donated by the hugely supportive Leather and Lace Lodge, We Frame It, Candles & Scents, Thunder Mountain Tai Chi - Bob Chasan, Lucinda Sage-Midgorden and Sophia’s Italian Ristorante.

Of course, the focus of the evening was the locally supplied food and wine. Special thanks to the following Farmers’ Market vendors: San Ysidro Farm, Super Natural Organics, Locally Arizona, The Monkey Tree Market, Simmons Honey and Beatty’s Orchard. Thanks also to Callaghan Vineyards, Keif-Joshua Vineyards and Canelo Hills Vineyards & Winery, who all donated wine.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the dinner. I hope you agree it was a delicious delight.
